The Altar Servers Society of Corpus Christi
Parish was formed on September, 2002. Its mission is to provide
Catholic boys and young men an opportunity to serve God at the
altar and to learn about other ways of serving Him in their
lives. The goal of the Altar Servers Society is to encourage
“active member’s participation” in all HIS WAYS. There are three
spiritual objectives for the members: humbleness, simplicity,
and universal brotherhood.
There are a variety of programs and functions run by the Society
grouped under the following categories:
A. Basic Functions
• Serving Mass - Members of the Society have put in an average
of 40 hours per week serving God at the altar.
• Backup Lectors - Some of the older members are also serving as
backup readers for the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses.
B. Voluntary Service (In-House)
The Society emphasizes active members’ participation in
“community life” through the following activities:
• Church / Sacristy Cleanup
• Polishing of Church equipments
• Parish Hall Cleanup
• Summer Day Camp organized by the Missionaries of Charity
Sisters. In the past two years, the Society had sent over 20
volunteers to work as group leaders in the camp.
• Christmas Senior Luncheon
• Christmas Party for the Poor People
• Senior Summer Day Camp (upcoming)
C. Voluntary Service (Outreach)
• Gardening for seniors at home
• Limited commuting service to and from the church for seniors
• Food drive for various Catholic charitable organizations
D. Educational and Tutorial (All free
except charges to cover food costs.)
• Guitar lessons
• German/French classes (upcoming)
• Summer Day Camp (baking sessions and daily geography lessons)
E. Spiritual
• Special Prayer Vigil
• Collection of Prayers and Novenas
• Lenten Program
• Friends of the Saints Program
• Catechism for Altar Boys
• Religious games
• Counseling and family visit for lukewarm members
F. Leisure
• Sport activities: ping pong, floor hockey, handball, soccer,
basketball, volleyball
• Special events: board games challenge, religious monopoly,
amazing race (upcoming)
• Parties: annual Christmas dinner and award ceremony,
Thanksgiving luncheons, leaders’ summer and winter ‘relaxer’.
The Society has 60 active members participating in all kinds of
works and activities weekly at our parish. But, do you know how
the Society is able to stay financially afloat while maintaining
membership fee free? The Society organizes fundraising events
periodically where products sold are made from “scratch” by the
members like the Altar Boys cookies and the Altar Boys garden
produce. It also receives donations for serving on weddings and
funerals. The Society would like to express their sincere
gratitude to some very generous parishioners who have been
donating food, prizes or money. The Society needs your
continuous support to run a membership fee free group.
The Society would like to invite you to seriously consider
signing up your children to be part of the group. Give them an
opportunity to be close to Jesus by serving Him at the altar.
Let them learn the many other ways that they can serve Him and
actively participate in the community of Corpus Christi Parish.
